The project Geometridae Mundi initiated in 2007 with target of producing an illustrated digital Catalogue of all geometrid moth worldwide. The project lead jointly by Dr. Hans Löbel (Sondershausen, Germany) and Dr. Axel Hausmann (Bavarian State Collection of Zoology, Munich, Germany) and with support of the research initiative Forum Herbulot. However, the major work as well as the offline html database development were done by Dr. Löbel. 

In the first phase of the projects the authors published photos of close to 42% of the world's fauna of Geometrid moths as DVD version (Löbel & Hausmann 2018). The html design of the DVDs was adjusted to provide a form of identification key. The users could use these data to identify their specimens by filtering the data based on different taxonomic or geographic criteria. To further development of this project, here we connected the project Geometridae Mundi to the global catalogue of Geometrid moths. We followed the same target and provided different taxonomic or geographic elements for filtering the data. 

Use. This page allows users to filter the available data in order to identify uncertain specimens. After applying filters, users can select and enlarge photographs for detailed examination. Irrelevant images can then be removed progressively to narrow the results and identify specimens with the most similar wing pattern. 

Note. The geographic information provided here is based exclusively on type localities and does not represent the complete geographic distribution of each taxon. Nevertheless, we believe that type locality data alone can provide valuable support for geographically sorting and comparing photographs. 

Call for support. This section of our database is still under development, and currently more than 50% of all Geometrid moth species are not yet illustrated here. To support the scientific community and improve the completeness of this resource, we warmly welcome contributions of photographs of type specimens as well as non-type specimens, provided that their identification is fully verified and reliable.
